Buckmore Park hosted this years coveted O Plate over the King's Coronation Weekend. Buckmore Park is a fantastic but physically hard circuit with twists, turns and many opportunities for overtakes.
Race Report
Saturday testing turned out to be a wet day, with the forecast for Sunday to be dry which meant that the raicng would be on different racing lines to those on Saturday, however Monty showed great pace in the wet with the engines performing well.
Sunday Heat 1
Mixed grids for O Plate, starting P13 in heat 1, dry conditions and a great race, many overtakes working with other drivers to move up the order and finishing P7.
Heat 2
Started P2, and with some aggresive jostling at the front after 2 false starts from the grid, Monty held in P7 showing great pace and tucking into the lead group.
Heat 3
Started P9 but a couple of mistakes on overtakes which meant by the time he had got past drivers he had lost position to, there was too much to do to bridge the gap to the lead group, great pace and a determined drive.
Final
Starting P9 and gaining places after a great start from the outside, with the lead group and looking at a promising finish of P5 or P6, there was unfortunately an unavoidable incident involving 3 karts directly in front of him causing a collision and ultimately a retirement from the race.
Lots of learnings from the weekend, great pace all weekend and improving racecraft competing with the best, onwards to Shenington club round and continued preparation to the next British Kart Championship round in June.
