On President's Day, we welcomed ‘The Hockey Paper to feature the club in their 'Matchday Diaries'; a behind the scenes video series that looks at hockey clubs across the UK to give a unique flavour of what makes them thrive and survive. We're delighted that one thing that the video highlights is just how much of a family Canterbury Hockey Club is. There are few clubs in the country that can compete with the ethos at Canterbury and a lot can be taken from the continuing involvement of family groups, the support of the membership and the general enthusiasm of all involved – the future bodes well for the success of our club for many years to come and the drive to succeed is as great now as it has ever been. If you are interested in playing, supporting, administering or understanding sponsorship and partnership opportunities please do get in touch. https://lnkd.in/eD9dDzEg

If the last three years have taught us anything it is to “prepare for the unimaginable”. Brexit instability followed by the Covid-19 pandemic and now the impacts of the war in Ukraine have brought global uncertainty to our doorsteps, our boilers and our shopping baskets. The passing of a club member is always going to be hard but to lose one just coming into their prime of life is unimaginable and devastating and nothing could prepare us for the passing of 'Figgy'. One thing we did learn about the club was just how much we all pull together at times of need. In the days and weeks that followed the way all corners of the club came together to make sure that we did Chris and his family proud were heart-warming and a reminder of how import our community is. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there is a page on our website with a list of mental health support available to all ages, if you have any more charities or support networks to add please do let us know. The process of getting rid of the mince pies starts with the Annual Laslett vs Club Boxing Day match at 11:00, 2022 being the 41st edition. This is followed on the 31st of Dec by the 'Villages Tournament’ sponsored by the NFU. Started back in 2002/3 season with 5 teams and won by the 'City Slickers' last year’s edition, the 19th, was won by Middle Earth and had 120 players involved. Our 1st XIs are next in action Indoors with games for both over 7/8th & 14/15th Jan and Ladies possibly 21/22nd depending on results. The outdoor season starts again for the Men on 28th Jan with a rearranged trip to University of Bristol while the Ladies start back on 4th Feb with a trip to Cambridge City. Due to Dec postponements, there is a pretty full league fixture list for the rest of the club on the 7th January so players please make sure you have your TEAMO availability up to date. Have a wonderful Christmas and new year with your loved ones and thank you to every one of you for all you do for our great club but a particular thank you to those that do that little bit more and make sure we are here to fight another day.
