I really appreciate Simon and his concept on teams and teamwork. Many of us throw around "Team" without truly understanding the intimate and ultimate effort it takes to build a high-performing team (just ask the US Ryder Cup "team") And since Simon has used the Rugby WC as his context, I can't help but to mention Owen Eastwood's book #Belonging as the ultimate (IMHO) guide to self-actualized teamwork!!
RUGBY WORLD CUP SEMI FINAL WEEK!🔥🔥 BIG QUESTION ONE : How would you measure whether you have a team or not? (People can get things done, deliver on their KPI's and still not be a team) If you want to produce extraordinary results in extremely challenging condtions, you need a team, not just an aggregate of competent individuals. Ask the Springboks. There are only three measures in my experience (3C's): 👉 Connection - do we move as one or are there gaps? 👉 Cooperation - how can I help you be great? 👉 Compassion - we all will make mistakes. How will you treat me? Creating these three C's is not a simple task and takes time. → Everyone needs to be on the same page . → Everyone needs to have bought into the vision and strategy → Everyone needs to know, appreciate and believe that those on the team deserve to be there. → Everyone needs to understand their role → Everyone needs to know how their role connects to the other roles P.S It is one thing backing the Boks, it is another thing learning their lessons. I can show you how to find your 3 C's...

⚽️ Are football and recruitment similar? 🤔 Barb Hyman says that Recruitment should start to take a leaf out of a football managers book 📕 After research, into a sport I self confessed know nothing about, apparently a goal keeper is never expected to score goals. Thats the job of ‘a striker’ A midfielder is only allowed on one section of the pitch. So each player has a unique set of skills to support the team across the field. The same principle can be applied to Recruitment. It’s no one size that fits all. We shouldn’t be looking for the exact same skills across every candidate. The goal (😉) isn’t just to fill positions but to assemble a winning team 💪🏻 After all, we wouldn’t want a team full of goalkeepers only being able to do one job 😜 #footballanalytics #recruitment #skills #recruiterlife #hiringchronicles Ps. This post was not made to cause any offence to any die hard football fans 🫣😂

With the rugby world cup final this weekend, got me thinking about the similarities with rugby and recruitment: 1. You can think you’re in for a try/placement and get pulled back last minute (see photo) he must have been pretty quick him! 2. The spotlight will be on you, you can’t hide, especially when you’ve got a 20st bloke running at you! 3. You need to be a great communicator 4. You’ll have to get back up after getting smashed in the face, not literally in recruitment unless you work for a really bad firm! 5. No individual is bigger than the team 6. A team is only as good as its coach 7. Practice makes perfect 8. A competitive edge is imperative to succeed 9. In the word’s of Roy Castle “Dedication is what you need” 10. At the end of the day you get in a bath with 20 other fellas….. maybe the similarities end there!
