Community Club of the Week with MEARS: Dewsbury Celtic

The juniors from Dewsbury Celtic at the Rhinos game v St Helens

This week’s Community Club of the Week, which is supported by our key partners Mears, is Dewsbury Celtics.

Dewsbury Celtic is a well-established club, based at the Dewsbury Irish National League Club in the Westtown area of Dewsbury, with all training and matches played at the nearby Crow Nest Park, the club is thought to be one of the oldest Rugby League Clubs in existence originally formed in 1879 and still going strong today

The junior section has only been in existence for sixteen years, founded by former Leeds player Francis Cummins who has strong connections with the club, it has now blossomed into one of the county’s leading junior clubs, with age groups at tots right the way through to Under -17, two open age teams and the newest group a girls Under-16.

Training times vary for each age group, with the majority  training on a Tuesday and Thursday. The club colours are a standout feature of the club, we have always been recognised having irregular green and white hoops which no other club feature and we have no intention to change.
