PHOTOS: Cold day in Lincoln ends with beautiful ‘sundog’ in the sky

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The freezing temperatures didn’t stop Nebraskans from enjoying a ‘sundog’ in the sky on Saturday.

Sundogs form when sunlight passes through ice crystals at a specific angle, creating an optical illusion on each side of the sun.

Channel 8 forecaster Kent Boughton said if you see two light spots on either side of the sun, it’s referred to as a ‘sundog’, but if there are more than two spots, they’re called ‘sun puppies.’
