The most peculiar game of cricket

The man that scored the indoor game with Bapchild bowled out for zero has stated it was one of the most peculiar spectacles of cricket.

Bapchild

The Kent indoor cricket side have become unfortunate record holders after being bowled out for nought off just 20 balls.

Bapchild CC had an innings and day to forget as successive batsman failed to get off the mark against Christ Church University during a recent match in Canterbury.

The rare result came during the recent Kent Finals of the ECB six-a-side Indoor National Club Championship.

Christ Church batted first and posted 120 in the quarter-final fixture before bowlers Fraser McWhinnie and Philip Semmens shared the honours with three wickets apiece to tear apart the Bapchild innings.

McWhinnie claimed his trio of scalps in 12 balls with Semmens needing just eight deliveries to take his three wickets.

Looking back on thay day, James Moss from Kent Cricket, who scored the game, talked us through what will go down in history as one of the most incredible games:

“Watching (and scoring) Bapchild take on CCCU in the first round of finals day turned out to be one of the most peculiar spectacles of Cricket.”

“Knowing Bapchild were arriving to the competition without match practice and playing in (to them) what was a new hall against the well drilled CCCU squad, it was always going to require the Swale team to dig deep.”

“Bowling first, Bapchild bowled a fifty/fifty mixture of tight lines and wides. Weller & Pumphrett (bowling overs 5 through 10) both returned their 3 over spells for a very tidy 21 runs).”

“Neither of the opening batsman were able to take the attack to the bowlers (with Piesley, having opened the inning not retiring until the first ball of the 12th over). However, the sheer volume of wides allowed CCCU to tick along risk free, before an onslaught of 26 runs from the final over of the innings.”

“Most sides would expect to defend 120 in the Ames Levett Indoor School, though it is by no means an unbeatable score. The first 2 balls of the innings sent down by McWhinnie were at good pace and were dealt with confidently by Bapchild skipper, James Sutton.”

“But the fifth ball, swinging from leg to clatter into middle and off was the catalyst for something quite spectacular…”

“The 6th ball cleaned up the number 3 in similar fashion, ending the first over on 0-2. CCCU captain and respected opening bower Phil Semmens also picked himself up a 2 wicket maiden with a sharp caught behind by Piesely, standing up to the stumps.”

“After 12 balls Bapchild were 0-4, with McWhinnie returning to pick up another wicket (caught behind) with the first ball of his second over – claiming a quite stunning hat-trick.”

“The rest of the over was blocked out by the stranded Bapchild number 6, who you would imagine was somewhat perplexed to find himself facing a buoyant CCCU opening attack in only the 13th ball of the innings!”

“Harrison survived the final 5 balls of the McWhinnie over, before being caught behind again by Piesley off of the bowling of Semmens in the first ball of the 4th over.”

“Utterly outplayed, the Bapchild team took their defeat in an excellent spirit and posed for photos to ‘celebrate’ the occasion.”

“Unsurprisingly, the CCCU team went on to beat Hayes in the semi-final after bowling them out for 28! Before playing a nail biting final against the 10 times Kent Champions, Broadstairs – winning with 1 ball and 1 wicket to spare.”
