Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson's Relationship Timeline: A Look Back

Before Oscar-nominated actors Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson engaged in an on-and-off again romance, Wilson played the titular unwanted houseguest of Hudson's character, Molly, in 2006's You, Me and Dupree. 

At the time, the acting duo were two of Hollywood's most in-demand stars. Yet, despite their fame, they kept the details of their relationship private. A three-year series of breakups and reconcilations allowed us to believe a reunion was possible — but when it did come, there was no happily ever after involved.

In 2012, Us Weekly reported Hudson and Wilson bonded over their children at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, sharing photos of their respective tots. (Both Hudson and Wilson are parents to three kids from other relationships). Despite their ups and downs in the past, there didn't appear to be any bad blood between the exes, proving time heals all wounds.

2006: Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson first meet and begin dating

The pair first met on the set of the romantic comedy You, Me and Dupree while Hudson was still married to her first husband, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson. A month after the film opened in July 2006, Hudson and Robinson separated, with Robinson filing for divorce that November, per People. She and Wilson were confirmed to be dating that fall.

Given the timeline and her on-screen chemistry with Wilson, it was long-rumored that there was overlap between the relationships, but Hudson countered the speculation simply, telling Harper's Bazaar in 2009, "That's not what happened." 

Both Wilson and fellow co-star Matt Dillon also reportedly admitted to developing crushes on Hudson on set. 

June 2007: Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson break up

Which time? By June 2007, round 1 of "Kowen" had come to an end. A few months later, Wilson's life took a nearly fatal turn when he attempted suicide, according to ABC News. Sources close to the actor denied the correlation between his attempt on his life and his split from Hudson.

"Owen is such a lovely person, and I love him dearly," the Almost Famous actress told Vogue, per Boston Herald, in late 2007. "And I wish him beautiful things — health and everything that he desires in life."

Still hounded to discuss her role in her ex's highly personal troubles years later, she told The Telegraph in 2010, "There are things that should be left alone and not discussed in public, and that was one of them. The media does not discriminate between people who want that attention and people who just want to get on with their jobs."

February 2008: Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson reunite

Despite having revealed her "conscious decision to try to stay single as long as possible" to InStyle UK, by February 2008, Hudson and her ex had reportedly reunited. TMZ reported the Brides War star even celebrated her 29th birthday in Miami with Wilson in April. However, they would split up again in May.

"It was a pretty bad breakup," a Wilson pal told People at the time. "Owen said it was a tough one. He definitely doesn't want to dwell on it. He wants to put it behind him."

April 2009: Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson break up again

Third time's a charm? The couple took another chance at rekindling their romance in February 2009, but it would be short-lived. By May, there was a new man in Hudson's life: Alex Rodriguez.
