Durie's boxer gunning for Scottish Open Championship semi-final bout

Castlemilk boxer Kyle McNeil has set up a Scottish Open Championships semi-final against Newarthill’s Dylan Arbuckle at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell this weekend.

The Durie’s ABC fighter defeated Dundee Skyaxe’s Bruce Mills by unanimous decision in his opening bout, which puts 60kg Scottish intermediate champion McNeil up against the reigning open class champion in Arbuckle.

Head coach Archie Durie, who runs Durie’s Boxing Gym in Rutherglen, said: “This was Kyle’s first taste of elite open class competition, and he controlled the bout from start to finish.

“Kyle controlled the distance, using his lead jab as a measure, turning his back right hand time and time again, catching the Dundee boxer and winning by 5-0 unanimous decision.

“His semi-final this weekend will be a hard contest for Kyle, where he will be a big underdog.

“However, if anybody can cause an upset in these championships then Kyle is the lad to do it.

“He will leave nothing in the right, and Dylan will know he has been in a fight.”
