Delgany NS quiz night

Delgany NS parent’s association is hosting a fundraising quiz night on Thursday, April 25 at the Wicklow Arms.

The night begins at 8pm and includes canapes, top quiz prizes and even better raflle items. A table of four quiz maestros costs €80 and can be purchased via pay.sumup.com/b2c/QIPV0QH9

Greystones coffee date

Greystones Active Retirement’s monthly coffee morming takes place on Friday, April 26 at Kilian House, behind Holy Rosary Church.

Marion Van der Wel fro Age Friendly Homes will explain how the scheme can help older people stay in their homes, while Joe O’Toole from Bray Lions will be giving out bottles from the Message in a Bottle scheme.

This initiative encourages people to list their medications on a form and put that form in the special bottle, which is kept in the fridge in case of emergencies. Paramedics have been briefed on this and will know to check the fridge.

Massey family heritage talk Greystones University of the Third Age is hosting a talk about the Massey family, who owned large swathes of land in Dublin and Wicklow once upon a time. It all went wrong for them at some point and the last descendant was lifted out of his house on a mattress by bailiffs.

The talk will be conducted by historian Frank Tracey at Delgany Golf Club from 10.30am on Thursday, April 25. A fee of €5 per person is to cover the cost of the venue.

Textile art

The 04 Textile Group is a collective of eight textile artists based in Dublin and Wicklow who have been exhibiting together since 2004.

Their new exhibition ‘04 – 24 Lasting Impressions’ is a retrospective glance at some of the work previously exhibited over the last two decades and will also include work created specifically for this exhibition.

It will open at Signal Arts Centre, Bray, on Thursday, April 18 and runs until Sunday, April 28.

Animal trust fundraiser

A coffee morning and auction is due to take place at the Wicklow Arms in Delgany on Saturday, April 27 in aid of the Animal Trust.

The event runs from 11am to 2pm and admission is €10, which can be paid on the day.

Greystones bowling club

Greystones Bowling club got their season off to a great start. Both Veterans teams won away in Westmanstown, the Ladies McIntyre Cup team beat Kenilworth away and the Monday Division 1 team won all five points in their home match against Kenilworth. Well done to all the players and team captains.

Voices of Bray

The Voices of Bray community choir are holding their ‘Spring into Summer Concert’ on Sunday, May 5 at 7.30pm in St Fergal’s Church, Bray. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Wicklow Hospice. Tickets, priced €12, are available from eventbrite.

Clean Coasts

The monthly Clean Coasts North Wicklow clean-up will take place on Sunday, April 28 meeting at 10am at Rise at the Cove.

Scrabble

Greystones Library has started a Scrabble club which meets every Friday afternoon from 2-4pm. Please ring the library on 012873548 if you wish to join.

Wicklow Africa Day

Entertainers, collaborators and volunteers are sought for the annual Africa Day Wicklow celebration, which will take place on Saturday, May 18, in Burnaby Park, Greystones.

Open mic

El Troubadours Open Mic Night takes place in Butler & Barry, Strand Road, Bray, 8-10 pm every Wednesday.

Bray Cloud 9

‘Unity in the community’ is the motto of the Bray Cloud 9 team, who run the furniture and bric-a-brac store on Quinnsborough Road, to support local causes.

Garda clinic

The community policing clinic is held every Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Kilcoole Community Centre.

The clinic is there for members of the public to drop in and for crime prevention advice, to get help with forms, such as passports stamped and driving licences, as well as other Garda services that can be attended to. Feel free to drop in and no appointment is needed.

Purple House

Purple House Cancer Support provides a range of professional support services to people of all ages. It has a wide range of classes and programmes available both in person and remotely through its Purple House at Home Service.

Programmes include Reflexology, Men’s Cancer Support Group, Knitting and Crochet, Breast Cancer Support Group, Acupuncture and Yoga. Purple House also runs support services for children and young adults affected by cancer.

Men’s Sheds

Bray Men’s Shed is now full. Greystones Men’s Shed meets on Mondays, at 77 Rathdown Park, from 7.30pm. Contact Jim Rice at 089 254 0586 for queries.

Bray Active Retirement

Bray Active Retirement holds monthly meetings on the first Friday of the month in the Little Flower Hall at 10.30 a.m.

Membership is open to retired men and women aged 50 years and over.

The association offers a range of activities, including holidays, creative activities, learning programmes and sporting pursuits and afternoon tea dances, in various locations.

Membership details are available at the Good Neighbour Mornings, Little Flower Hall, Holy Redeemer Parish, first Friday of the month at 10.30 a.m. (September to June).

Bowling club

Open Door Day Centre

The Open Door Day Centre operates Monday to Friday on Vevay Road, Bray.

Open Door provides facilities and activities for adults with physical disabilities as a result of multiple sclerosis, stroke, motor neurone disease, spina bifida, road accidents and others.

The purpose-built centre offers easy access to the various activities within the building. The centre also provides carers and their families with a well-deserved break during the week. Open Door is celebrating 40 years of supporting adults with physical disabilities.

Music Circle

Greystones Music Circle meets on the first Wednesday of every month at Greystones Library.

WH Five Loaves

Wicklow Homeless Five Loaves drop-in day centre on Main Street, Bray welcomes volunteers from all walks of life. Volunteers and their contributions are key to its success and without them it would not achieve its objectives.

W.H. Five Loaves promotes the participation of student volunteers and although it is only short term it can be a meaningful experience, so get in touch if you wish to participate, call: 01 204 0960.

Lakers’ volunteers

Lakers supports adults and children with intellectual disabilities and runs over 60 activities a week for its 400 members.

Its centre is open six days a week and is supported by over 160 volunteers.

Volunteers are encouraged to take part in training opportunities within Lakers, Special Olympics Ireland and various sports bodies.

Bridge clubs

Cuala Bridge Club, Dargle Bridge Club and East Coast Bridge Club all play in The Open Door Daycare Centre on Vevay Road. Bray.

Bridge is played every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night at 7.30 p.m.

The centre is wheelchair-friendly with plenty of parking available.
