Ladies from across Courtown and Riverchapel have been striking up friendships at weekly bowling sessions in Pirate’s Cove in recent months.

Organised by the Riverchapel Courtown Ladies Club, the weekly meetings offer people from all walks of life the chance to meet other people, enjoy some gentle exercise and have some fun. According to Secretary of Riverchapel Courtown Ladies Club, Pauline Magee, the initiative has been a great success.

"The ladies love it,” she said. “Some of the people who come down are on frames or sticks and they’re all thoroughly enjoying it. It gives them a bit of exercise they might not otherwise get.”

“At the beginning, people said were doing it for the fun and that they weren’t competitive but, after three weeks, they were asking what the score was!”

Pauline said that they are delighted to hold the meetings in Pirate’s Cove, adding that the ladies have been met with nothing but kindness since starting the weekly sessions there. The bowling sessions take place at 11.30 a.m. at Pirate’s Cove every Tuesday morning and are open to both members and non-members of the Riverchapel Courtown Ladies Club, said Pauline.
