Treble of Munster badminton titles for Nicole Vesko and Luke Marks

The Munster Juvenile Closed Badminton Championships were held at Tralee Sports and Leisure Centre last Sunday.

In the girls singles Nicole Vesko and Essie Hickey had a close game with Vesko coming out on top with a win of 21-19 and 21-18. Luke Marks and Gearóid Madden played it out in the boys singles final with Marks winning 21-11 and 21-6.

Nicole Vesko and Triona Prenderville played together in the girls doubles, beating runners-up Sophie Barry and Essie Hickey with a score of 21-12 and 21-11.

Luke Marks and Ben Rooney played Sean Conway and James O’Connell in the boys doubles and Luke and Ben won 21-18 and 21-12. Jakub Warmusz and Nika Setikatie were runners-up in the mixed final playing against Luke Marks and Nicole Vesko. The scores were 21-10 and 21-7.

Congratulations to Nicole Vesko and Luke Marks for winning the treble, a great achievement.

Meanwhile, the Under-17 Munster Juvenile Closed Badminton Championships were held in MTU, Kerry Sports Academy.

Anna Lucy O’Sullivan beat Ciara Crofton in the girls singles whilst Jack Hickey beat Cormac Doyle in the boys singles.

The girls doubles saw Anna Lucy O’Sullivan and Katie Collins take the win over Edel O’Donoghue and Lea O’Donoghue whilst Jack Hickey and Cormac Doyle teamed up and played Ruadhan Donovan and Diarmuid Quirke, Jack and Cormac coming out on top.

Jack Hickey won the treble after teaming up with Abbie Doyle and the two of them beating Gerard Ryan and Lil Howard Murphy in the mixed doubles final.

Elsewhere, the Munster Badminton Inter-County competition returned the weekend before last with grade D, H and F teams playing. In the first round the grade D team played Tipperary and Kerry won 7 games to 2. The grade H team were beaten by Tipperary 6-3 and the Grade F team lost 7-2 to Waterford.

The second round of games saw Kerry D team beat Waterford 7-2 winning the Munster competition and making it through to the All Ireland finals which will be held in April.

Unfortunately the grade H and F teams weren’t as successful with the H team losing to Limerick 7-2 and Clare beating Kerry 6-3 in the F competition.

Congratulations to the Grade D team for making it through to the All Ireland finals and the very best of luck to them in April. Next inter-county outings are being held next Sunday where the Grade C, E and G teams will be in action.
