Mixed day for the Clementswood club at Group 5 Finals day

It was a day as skip Jack Page described it as ‘one of two halves’ for Clementswood, as their morning disappointment turned into afternoon delight at the Group 5 Finals.

The club had lost both rinks in the Seeley Trophy to South Woodford at the start of the day, but it the Unbadged Double Fours in the afternoon they found their form against Woodford.

“At the beginning, our number one found it very easy and I didn’t have to do a lot,” said Jack afterwards.

“It was very tight in the end, but very enjoyable.”

Jack’s rink of Richard Chadwick, Dave Nunn and Brian Carter finally got home by 21-16 against Robbie Key and his Woodford team of John Lowell, Keith Taylor and Dave Howell.

The the other rink was closer as Les Weedon, Norman Benton, John Martin and skip Brian King had to settle for a 24-24 draw, against Alex Mair, Neil Whiteside, Kevin Reid and skip Don Wright, but the trophy was won.

“We are doing well,” said Jack. “We have won two leagues already this season and we are second in the Tabard which we have won for the last three years.

“It is not easy. We have only about 16 playing members this summer. We lost George Porter which is a big miss.

“When we won the county double fours a couple of years ago, we had probably 12 good players, but now we are down to about 10 and we are all getting older as well.”

The golden oldies strike again.
