National Bowling Day is this Saturday, (Aug. 12, 2017).

Whether or not you’ll be donning some rented shoes and taking to the lanes of Greater Houston in celebration, Houston Matters takes a look at how the game has grown and changed here over the years.

Arlen Deason is a longtime member — and incoming president of — the Houston Buzzard Club, a local chapter of a nationally sanctioned bowling club.

He recently spoke with Joshua Zinn about the club, how bowling has changed over time, and he talks a little shop about various techniques and elements of the game.
