Although lunch out at the hospital may not seem like something many people opt for, it turns out the cafe at Frimley Park Hospital could actually be worth a visit, even if you aren't visiting the hospital yourself. Often used by staff or patients with a long wait time, the cafe is easily found on the ground floor of the hospital - which is in Surrey - and could be worth a visit.

Last week, reporter Laura Nightingale popped into the onsite café called Glade while waiting for an appointment. Despite walking past it dozens and dozens of times in the past, Laura had never ventured in, but was surprised at what she found when she did.

Joining a lengthy queue of people (around eight people) in the glass fronted eatery on Wednesday just before midday, Laura spotted a fridge of cold sandwiches and drinks first which included a couple of salads, wraps, plus gluten free and vegan options. Taking a look at the menu, it then became clear that prices were fairly reasonable, including for sarnies.

The sarnie prices ranged from £1.90 to £3.60 (with a discount for staff £1.60 to £3). Fillings included curried chickpea, chickpea smash, cheese, egg and cress, cheese and onion, chicken and stuffing, chicken tikka, prawn mayonnaise, tuna mayonnaise, ham and cheese, chicken salad and a chicken Caesar wrap, which is what I chose.

Costing £2.80, Laura thought the wrap was pretty good value and enjoyed both the taste and the amount of filling. Alongside a bottle of orange juice and a banana, the lunch cost just £5.80 in total.

It was also obvious from the menu just how many snacks and beverages were on offer. These included freshly made toasties from £3 with a choice of white, brown or granary bread, served with a salad garnish, sausage roll (£2.20), Cornish pasty (£2.90), vegan savoury slices (from £2.30) and bacon baps available in the morning (£2.80).

For those with a sweet tooth, there was a tempting selection of cakes including Victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle, coffee and walnut and carrot cake for £2.40. Plus there were ice creams, fruit, yoghurts and pastries.

Open seven days a week from 7.30am weekdays and from 9.30am at weekends, Cafe Glade is a pretty good cafe to venture to for those looking for a cheap and cheerful lunch. There is a little shop opposite selling crisps, chocolates, magazines, newspapers, drinks and cards should you need to pick up snacks when the café is closed.
