Garioch/Turriff combined indoor bowls team are in the Ladies Bowling Scottish Cup final for the first time having beat Arbroath 8-2 in the semifinal writes Mike Barron.
On the way they beat Stonehaven 6-4, Fraserburgh 10-0, and the scalp of East Kilbride 8-2 in the quarter final.
They now meet Balbardie (Bathgate), an East Premier League team who are mid table meantime.
Despite this they could be regarded as favourites.
The two teams meet at Falkirk on April 8.
With few ladies in the respective Garioch (Inverurie) and Turriff Indoor Bowling Clubs, instead of withdrawing from Scottish League, the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association agreed to a joint team entering the North Division One in 2021/22.
They won this league, and were promoted but they have struggled in the North Premier League, and are now relegated.
They actually won only one match of six and that was away against Arbroath and they lost the return match at Inverurie.
Sheila Reidford, coordinator for the team commented “We are disappointed at being relegated, but playing against strong opposition we lost in some close matches.
"We have obviously learned from the experience.
"In the Scottish Cup we originally met north teams, and felt we were playing well.
"Our win against a very strong East Kilbride 8-2 in the quarter final was a great team performance.
"Our confidence before meeting Arbroath was high, and as a team three of the 4 rinks had wins”
