Winter is the ideal time to cosy up with comfort food and two people who know a thing or two about food are TV's Hairy Bikers, who we spoke to about their favourite winter recipes that will help us through the cold winter nights.

MEET THE BIKERS THIS SUMMER

BBC chefs Dave Myers and Si King have travelled all over the world, from Morocco to Sweden, and some of their top winter meals are inspired by their travels.

Influenced by Christmas meats, hearty soups and rich desserts that traditionally keep us satisfied at this time of year, the Hairy Bikers' winter dishes are sure to warm you up when the chilly weather bites.

Foodie fans of the Bikers can also hear about their summer recommendations during a cookery-themed cruise around the Norwegian fjords this June. The unbeatable celeb chef duo will show off their skills during a lively cooking demo, host a cocktail party and answer all your questions in their own hilarious style during a Q&A.

To whet your appetite for the cruise and keep you toasty this winter, here are Dave's six favourite winter warmers.

Chicken or turkey and ham casserole

"This is one of our one pot wonders we’ve done on Good Morning Britain. It’s brilliant for leftover turkey but it’s too good to keep just for Christmas, so you can do it with leftover chicken too.

"It’s like a classic turkey and ham casserole in a white cream sauce, but what we’ve done is to do it like a crumble, with a sage and onion stuffing top. I go back to the days of my roast dinners, the stuffing is the best part of it."

Cherry and bourbon ham

"We’ve reinvented the Christmas ham with a cherry bourbon glaze – that works really well all season."

Lamb, barley and spring greens soup

"This is a really good soup, but it’s a whole meal and it’s great for winter. A classic combination."

Sausage casserole

"Elevate the humble sausage casserole to a new level by adding some Worcestershire sauce, some Muscovado sugar, mixed herbs and some red wine."

Black Forest Trifle

"We invented the Black Forest trifle. It’s got all the flavours of the Black Forest Gateau but in a trifle, using chocolate custard. You’ve got your kirsch, your cherries, the chocolate custard, the sponge and the cream."

Lentil and kale soup

"We’ve done a lentil and kale soup, but added a Moroccan element, with some harissa, lemon, lentils and kale. It’s based on Harira, the soup Muslims make at Ramadan when they break the fast, and it’s a really substantial soup. That’s a really good veggie one."
