Pershore Cricket Club has received a massive cash boost to help it through the pandemic thanks to Pershore Round Table.

Members of the Round Table have given £1,500 of the donations from their Santa’s Sleigh run last Christmas to the cricket club.

Chris Ridings, junior cricket coordinator, said: “We like many sports clubs, and organisations have been hit so very hard over the last 12/13 months which has made it very difficult for us to offer the cricket provision we have hoped to.

“We are looking to improve our grounds to enable growth of junior, women’s and men’s cricket, as well as offering a safe and enjoyable space for the Pershore community to come and watch cricket.

When the members of Pershore Round Table heard this, they quickly decided to donate the money to the club.

Greg Jones, treasurer for Pershore Round Table, said: “It’s a great privilege to be able to support the Cricket Club like this in their 150th year.

“Cricket in Pershore is at the heart of the community, and it is great to see the generosity people displayed at Christmas being put to good use”.

The donation will go towards refurbishing the junior’s practice area.

The cricket club is also fundraising to improve the clubhouse.

Mr Ridings added: “Another community based project is creating a social area or spectator areas for the local community to be able to safely and enjoyably access cricket to watch and enjoy our wonderful grounds. We are looking to develop a patio and decking area and purchase more benches.

“We have a crowdfunding page set up aiming to raise the money.
