Double delight for Nottingham at BUCS 6s Championships

University of Nottingham celebrated double success at Sunday’s 2022 BUCS Lacrosse 6s Championships winning both the men’s and women’s Championship titles.

The men’s side beat their city rivals Nottingham Trent 8-5 in the Championship final, before the women followed that win up with a victory of their own against Durham, 6-2, to take the Women’s Championship and retain the BUCS 6s crown they won in 2021.

30 teams competed at Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus across the event with representation as far reaching as Exeter, University of East Anglia, and Newcastle.

In the trophy competition, Cardiff claimed a 9-2 win over Liverpool in the men’s tournament final, while Newcastle won a tight final 7-6 against Sheffield in the women’s competition.

Both Nottingham teams went through the competition with a 100% record, winning their groups comfortably to advance to the quarter-finals.

The women then beat Cardiff 8-3 in the QF before getting past Exeter in a tight semi-final, 5-4, to make it through to the final against Durham.

Meanwhile Nottingham rolled past Newcastle 12-1 in the quarters, to set up possibly the match of the day came against Durham in the semis.

Nottingham had led 6-4 at the half, but Durham fought back and the match went into golden goal overtime with the scores tied at 8-all, before Nottingham won the resuming face-off and scored the goal to send them through to the final against NTU.

Both teams will be keen to carry the form through back into their BUCS league campaigns as they seek success in the Northern Premier divisions.
