SPORTS clubs fear they are being targeted by yobs on quads with riders destroying fields and
gardens for fun.
During the weekend it was a field off Woodside Drive, in Benfleet, used by Benfleet Cricket and Social Club, damaged by muddy quad bike tracks.
The previous weekend pitches used by Benfleet Football Club.
Homeowners have also complained about damage to their properties.
An anonymous source said: “There has been damage to the council-owned buildings used by a playgroup.
“It is going to cost thousands to fix and the grounds won’t be repaired until May.
“It’s also impossible to claim on insurance because the ground belongs to the council.
“The cricket club will now be forced to hire other grounds.
“The cricket field was also damaged six weeks ago and has been damaged by quad bikes several times in the last two years.”
A spokesman for Essex Police, said: We are investigating reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage caused by persons riding on quad bikes in Woodside Avenue, Benfleet.
“Extensive damage has been caused to residents’ gardens as well as the nearby cricket pitch which will require repair before it can be used.
