FOUR members of Dunbar Community Pétanque Club will fly the flag for Scotland at an international event next year.

Callum Colquhoun, Dougie Fergie, Pete Stewart and Matthew Dickie qualified in fourth place to represent the country at the Celtic Challenge Competition.

The event, which takes place in Wales in May next year, will see them join up with the rest of the Scotland squad for matches against teams from the host nation and Ireland.

Stuart Robertson, secretary of the county club, offered his congratulations.

He said: “This was another marvellous achievement for the club.

“That is now two teams this year from the club that have qualified on separate occasions to go on to represent Scotland at top level, and considering that we are only 15 months old, is something to be very proud of.”

The club, based at Lauderdale Park, has seen its membership grow to about 70 players, who travel from all over the county to play.

This season, the club has hosted many groups from the community, including youth organisations, schools, Dunbar dementia group and French exchange students.
