  • ACHL Div 4 – Ard Eoin 2-8 Mac Dáibhéid 0-25

The senior hurlers put in a sterling performance away to Ard Eoin at the Cricky and deservedly came away with the points to maintain their winning sequence.

We started brightly and with points from Marcas Toner (0-2) and Jay Maguire following a nice solo run and finish from out on the right hand touchline. Ard Eoin opened their account with a pointed free but a long range Chris Gallagher point and an excellent point from Stephen McGivern who took a high catch from goalkeeper Gearoid Cosgrove’s puck out, stepped round the defender and duly struck the sliotar over the bar and we were four in front. We played some quality hurling and created many scoring opportunities but were very wayward with our shooting and we were punished when Ard Eoin struck to the net to leave the minimum between the sides. We rallied with points from Colm McKee, Donn Whelan (0-2(1f) and another long range Chris Gallagher effort. Another Ard Eoin point was countered with points from Dealgan Mooney and Donn Whelan (f) and with Ard Eoin adding another minor we lead at the break 1-6 to 0-11.

Ard Eoin on the restart pounced on a loose ball and struck to the net to take the lead. A brace of points from Donn Whelan (f) and Marcas Toner steered us back in front but Ard Eoin levelled. Donn Whelan executed another pointed free and after a great catch from Odhran Cosgrove, who fed Marcas Toner for another point we had edged two in front. From here, we pushed on, moving the sliotar and struck some outstanding points with Marcas Toner (0-3), Don Whelan, Caoimhin Heaney, Colm McKee, Chris Cunningham, Chris Gallagher and Jay Maguire all contributing and with the work rate of the the defense we limited Ard Eoins scoring chances to see us over the finish line 2-8 to 0-5.

    Scorers: M Toner 0-7, D Whelan 0-6, C Gallagher 0-4, J Maguire 0-2, C McKee 0-2, S McGivern 0-1, D Mooney 0-1, C Heaney 0-1 and C Cunningham 0-1

  • ACFL Div 2 – Pádraig Sáirseil 1-9 Mac Dáibhéid 0-7

The senior footballers came away empty handed from their latest league encounter away to Na Sáirseil at the Bear Pit.

It was Na Sáirseil who dominated the opening exchanges, as they used the ball much better and by the mid way stage lead 0-5 to 0-1 with Gerard Slane scoring our point. The game became a bit more balanced from here on with both defenses limiting scoring opportunities, however on the stroke of half-time Na Sáirseil kicked a crucial goal to give them a 1-5 to 0-1 lead at the break.

We showed much better in the second half and with points from Gerard Slane (0-2), Pádraig McParland and CJ Sullivan we reduced the deficit to a goal. However, three consecutive points from Na Sáirseil put us on the back foot again and despite two further points from Gerard Slane, a final pointed Na Sáirseil free cemented their win 1-9 to 0-7.

    Scorers: G Slane 0-5, P McParland 0-1 and CJ Sullivan 0-1

  • ACHL Div 4 – Mac Dáibhéid 2-25 Naomh Bríd 1-18

The senior hurlers secured another good win with victory over Naomh Bríd at Pairc Mhic Dháibhéid on Sunday.

Naomh Bríd had early joy as they reeled off three points before Stephen McGivern struck a nice point to get us off the mark. We were then rocked as a Naomh Bríd goal extended their advantage, however any celebrations were short lived as Marcas Toner blasted to the next from the ensuing puck out. The next point went to Naomh Bríd but points from Stephen McGivern and Don Whelan kept us on their coat tails. Two well struck pointed frees added to the Musgrave sides tally but we then enjoyed our best spell of the game with points from Don Whelan (0-3), Jay Maguire (0-2), Colm McKee, Caoimhin Heaney, Marcas Toner and Cormac Maguire. A brace of Naomh Bríd points left us four in front at the break 1-12 to 1-8.

Both teams started the second half with efforts which drifted wide of the uprights but it wasn’t long before normal service was resumed and both teams were back on target. We scored heavily in the half with points from Don Whelan (0-5), Marcas Toner (0-3), Jay Maguire (0-3), Colm McKee, Caoimhin Heaney and a goal from Cormac Maguire. Naomh Bríd did their best to stay in the game, scoring ten second half points (0-5fs) but our excellent score taking was more than enough to see us over the line.

    Scorers: Don Whelan 0-9, M Toner 1-5, Jay Maguire 0-4, C McKee 0-2, S McGivern 0-2, C Heaney 0-2 and C Maguire 1-1

  • ACFL Div 2 – Mac Dáibhéid 2-8 Gortnamóna 1-6

The senior footballers put in their best performance of the season when accounting for Gortnamóna at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid on Wednesday evening.

We were controlled in our possession, strong in the tackle and kicked some nice scores. However, we got of to a bad start with Gort kicking two points to lead. We were then guilty of some wayward shooting and missed several good scoring opportunities to get on the score board. Even so we were playing with composure and looked very assured in everything we did. Although it took a while for us to register our first point of the game, once James Lindsay got us of the mark we pushed on with Conor Toner pointing and four points from CJ Sullivan, the pick of them a great finish from out close to the left side touchline. The final point of the half came from a Gort free and we held a goal advantage at the break 0-6 to 0-3.

On the restart, another Gort pointed free reduced our advantage but a solo run from CJ Sullivan saw him kick a rasping shot to the back of the Gort net to extend our lead. Gort replied with another point but again we kicked a further point and when CJ Sullivan found Gerard Slane with a defence splitting kick pass, Gerard calmed slotted the ball past the outcoming keeper. Marcas Toner then got in with a nice point and despite a Gort goal and point, we had done the hard work and these were merely consolation scores. A good and deserved win on a score of 2-8 to 0-6

    Scorers: J Lindsay 0-1, C Toner 0-1, CJ Sullivan 1-4, G Slane 1-1 and M Toner 0-1

  • ACHL Div 4 – Loch Mór Dal gCáis 2-9 Mac Dháibhéid 1-20

The senior hurlers maintained their winning start to the league with a win away to Loch Mór at Mallusk last Saturday evening.

Loch Mór took the early initiative with three points, two from well hit frees in the opening three minutes. However, we quickly regrouped and with seven consecutive points, without reply, from Don Whelan (0-4), Darach Maher, Jay Maguire and Stephen McGivern we imposed ourselves on the game. A Loch Mór goal got them back in the game but we responded immediately with a major from Don Whelan, followed by a Colm McKee point. Both teams traded further points with Caoimhin Heaney and Stephen McGivern on target and with the final point of the half going to Loch Mór, from a 65, we led 1-10 to 1-7 at the half time whistle.

A pointed free from Don Whelan set us on our way in the second half and with points from Jay Maguire (0-2) Don Whelan (0-4), Stephen McGivern and Darach Maher we were well in control. Loch Mór added 1-1 to their tally through frees and with both teams added a point a piece in injury time (Don Whelan), we had secured the win on a score of 2-9 to 1-20.

    Scorers: D Whelan 1-10, S McGivern 0-3, J Maguire 0-3, D Maher 0-2, C McKee 0-1, and C Heaney 0-1

  • ACFL Div 2 – Naomh Pádraig 0-11 Mac Dáibhéid 0-11

The senior footballers came away with a draw in their most recent league encounter against Naomh Pádraig at Kirkwoods Park.

We started the better and with points from CJ Sullivan (0-2), one a fine effort with the outside of the boot and Pádraig McParland, we established a two point lead after 11 minutes. A Naomh Pádraig point from a free reduced the lead but we kicked on with further points from CJ, Pádraig and Gerard Slane’s first of the evening to reassert our hold on the game. Naomh Padraig tagged on two points before Gerard Slane kicked the final score of the half to see us lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

From the restart Naomh Pádraig took control and within ten minutes, four unanswered points gave them the minimum advantage. However, back we came with a brace of points from Gerard Slane, one a nice fisted effort but again Naomh Padraig levelled with 10 minutes remaining. Both teams struggled to get any rhythm to their game and as such scores were hard to come by. Another Gerard Slane point after good work by Anthony Rowntree restored our lead as the clocked ticked down but again Naomh Padraig pointed, Michael Connolly then looked as if he had got the winner but again a defiant Naomh Pádraig point tied the game and the spoils were shared.

    Scorers: CJ Sullivan 0-3, P McParland 0-2, G Slane – 0-5, M Connolly 0-1

  • ACHL Div 4 – Mac Dáibhéid 0-16 Naomh Pól 1-11

The senior hurlers made it two from two when eventually gaining the upper hand in the final minutes in a highly competitive game against Naomh Pól to win by a two point margin. Played in a mixture of weather, sun, wind and downpours both teams should be credited for their efforts.

Jay Maguire opened the scoring with a well taken point from long range but Naomh Pól gained the momentum and with the assistance of the wind struck 1-3 to open up a five point lead. Donn Whelan knocked over a point from a free while Stephen McGivern got his first point of the day to reduce the arrears but Naomh Pól responded with another three points. Both teams then traded further points with Colm McKee striking a fine shot from the left hand side line between the posts. Further minors from Stephen McGivern, Deaglan Mooney, following a fine solo, Colm McKee and Donn Whelan reduced the deficit to a single point before the final point of the half from Naomh Pól, gave them a two point advantage at the break.

The second half was a tight affair as several downpours made for difficult hurling. There was never more than two points between the sides throughout the half while points from Chris Gallagher, Stephen McGivern, Donn Whelan 0-3 and Caoimhin Heaney left the sides level at 0-14 to 1-11. With the clock ticking down, further points from Jay Maguire and Donn Whelan saw us get over the finish line to take the win.

    Scorers: D Whelan 0-6, S McGivern 0-3, J Maguire 0-2, C McKee 0-2, D Mooney 0-1, C Gallagher 0-1, C Heaney 0-1
