Two of Scottish indoor bowling’s powerhouses clash head-on this Saturday in the Scottish Premier League final at Blantyre Indoor Stadium.

Host club Blantyre Miners' Welfare, five-times winners, face a stern challenge from seven-times winners East Lothian.

With a noon start, spectators are guaranteed a feast of top-class bowling, with several internationalists in both teams.

The drink draw is:

McLaughlin, Brown, Kelly, Anderson v Betts, Sked, Higgins, Oliver;

Pillay, Meikle, Gilmartin, McCann v Johnston, Riva, Mower, Mellors;

Irvine, Walker, Bowers, Irvine v Yuill, Berwickshire, Thomson, Marshall;

Meikle, Sullivan, O’Hagan, McLean v Fallen, Wood, Robertson, Kennedy.

Team captain Gerry Sullivan said: “We’re going for a sixth win and I reckon it will be 50-50 as most finals are, but outsiders might have us as slight favourites because it’s at Blantyre.

“The winner will be whoever turns up on the day but it’s the most prestigious prize in indoor bowls and it would mean quite a lot to win it.”

On Sunday, Blantyre added yet another Scottish title to their roll of honour when Claire Walker, Freda Walker and Caroline Brown beat Teviotdale 19-10 to become Scottish Triples champions.

Gerry added: “The win was massive, it’s quite an achievement, and it’s a doubles for Caroline, who won the singles in January.”
