Bowlers from across Lanarkshire and further afield rolled up to Coatdyke bowling club for the club’s annual open pairs event.

It was won by Falkirk representatives Emma and John Allison, while the home club duo of Frank Gallagher and Graham Truesdale finished as runners-up.

Coatdyke honorary member Bob Miller, the long-time event organiser, said: “It was another great successful Open event for the club and an enjoyable day out for our members and visitors.”

The club’s popular open competition is a regular fixture on the bowls calendar and attracts competitors from all over Lanarkshire and Glasgow.

It was sponsored by Specsavers Airdrie and Coatbridge, who contributed towards the running costs and prizes with presentations being made by local store director Andrew McGonagle.

He said: “Bob and everyone else at the club have always offered the warmest welcome to competitors, and it was great to see the Open in action again as it’s an event we are always very proud to support.”
