Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor

Khabib is slated to soon take on MMA legend Conor McGregor at UFC 229, marking McGregor’s first fight in the octagon since November 2016.

The upcoming fight is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 6.

The two contenders came face to face for the first time at a September 20 press conference held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with the event being marked by McGregor’s signature boasts and taunts while the Russian fighter largely stayed silent.

Although meeting for the first time at the press conference, bad blood between the two UFC stars has been boiling in recent months, punctuated by McGregor’s infamous attack on a bus that held Khabib and other rivals at the Barclays Center in New York City in April 2018.

The incident reportedly began after Khabib and his team confronted McGregor's teammate Artem Lobov, leading theIrish UFC star to head to New York City and confront the Russian fighter and his team himself, a move which culminated with him throwing a metal trolley at their bus.

McGregor pleaded guilty to the charges and ultimately avoided jail time over the incident.

'If you'd have got off that bus you'd be dead now and I'd be in a cell,' McGregor taunted Khabib at the recent press conference.

McGregor continued to taunt the stolid Nurmagomedov, saying: 'I come here to smash this guy. Did you not see me outside the bus, I showed you my hands, no weapons, step off the bus, you talk the big game, now you're here, he cowered behind women.’

Khabib remained mostly silent and calm in the face of his opponent’s verbal barrage, though at one point said: 'Your grappling is zero, your wrestling is zero.'

The remark prompted McGregor to jab back: 'You'll be wrestling my knuckle out of your orbital bone.’

The Irish fighter also expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming match despite his hiatus, saying: 'My prediction is domination, his head will bounce off the canvas. I believe it will take one round, I know a glass jaw when I see one. If you're afraid of a smack, then a smack off me will feel like a double barreled shotgun. I'll shatter him like that glass shattered.’

McGregor’s last UFC match was in November 2016, after which he took an extended hiatus to focus on his August 2017 boxing match against Floyd Mayweather and on fatherhood following the birth of his son.

UFC 229 is widely expected to be one of the most anticipated events in the MMA organization’s history, with about half a million people reportedly watching the press conference online alone.
