Bowls club accused of 'slaughtering' family of rabbits which went feeding on their green
A bowls club stands accused of ‘slaughtering’ a family of rabbits – because they were feeding on its green.
The animals used to live under a hedge between a park and a bowling green in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.
But according to staff at the park, they were killed on behalf of the bowls club by a man who then put them in a bag and boasted he was going to eat them for dinner.

Tony and Loraine Walker, who manage Carters Park, claim the rabbits were killed last week, without the knowledge of the park’s custodians, the parish council.
The couple issued a statement: ‘On Friday morning at 7.30am the rabbit family living in Carters Park were slaughtered.
‘The person who killed the rabbits very unkindly told a staff member what he had done and that he was taking them home and eating them for his dinner.
'He said he had acted on behalf of the bowls club.
‘We have seen the rabbits grow up this summer and there were about eight of them. On Saturday, there were none left.’
A spokesman for the bowls club chairman, Dick Dunham, confirmed he had made a statement to the parish council.
And the council has promised to carry out a full investigation.
Its chairman said: ‘The parish council are the custodians of the park. We should be consulted about anything like this. That certainly didn’t happen in this instance.’
