A wedding DJ who filmed himself deliberately urinating on a cancer patient at a tennis club has been banned from the venue for life.

Leigh Brookfield, 40, admitted common assault on Friday after posting a video of himself on Snapchat deliberately splashing Peter Barton with pee at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club on Boxing Day.

Brookfield has been warned that he faces jail after he was bailed ahead of sentencing next year – but club bosses say he will never set foot inside again.

Footage shown to Llanelli Magistrates' Court showed the DJ intentionally urinating on Mr Barton after the ill man had been telling him about his prostate cancer.

Brookfield said 'Sorry to hear that' before weeing up the man's back and sharing footage of the sick stunt with his friends online.

In a statement, Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said it had visited Mr Barton following the incident and he was 'understandably upset'.

Posting on its official Facebook, the venue said: 'It has been brought to our attention of a video placed on Snapchat and then subsequently posted on Facebook of an incident which took place in the toilets of our club.

'We were unaware of any such incident happening to the valued member of the club and on seeing the video the gentleman was visited early on December 28 by the club Chairperson and a senior committee member to see how he was. 

'He was understandably upset about this incident as he has recently had treatment for cancer.

'We are a family friendly club and are devastated that our name has been bought into this despicable act by a person who has no association with the club and through no fault of our own.

'Leigh Brookfield has been banned from the club for life for his vile actions.'

In court, prosecutor Lucy Mansfield said Mr Barton only learned later that he had been urinated on.

She said: 'This occurred on Boxing Day this year at the Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club within the toilets.

'The defendant entered the toilets and has spoken to the complainant and the complainant explained that he has recently received a prostate cancer diagnosis.

'Whilst this was happening the defendant proceeded to urinate on the complainant and while this was occurring video was posted online.'

Miss Mansfield played the Snapchat footage, adding: 'At the time the complainant did not realise he was being urinated on but has since.'

The court heard Brookfield had previous offences for crimes committed while drunk.

Steven John, defending, asked for a pre-sentence report to be carried out to address Brookfield's alcohol use.

He added: 'This was obviously committed in drink and there's a history of alcohol-related offending.'

Brookfield, of Llanelli, was bailed but warned 'all options' including custody would be considered when he returns to court for sentence.

Police began an investigation after Brookfield posted the footage online but caused outrage with his vile actions.

Officers confirmed they received a string of complaints and Brookfield was subsequently charged with common assault.

The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, West Wales, posted an apology on Facebook before deleting his account.

He wrote: 'I'm apologising to you all regarding my actions this evening. I'm deeply sorry for those who I have offended and if I could take it all back I would.

'It's just something me and the boys do when we are drunk and until watching the video back I didn't realise that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems.'

But his apology was blasted by viewers of the video with one woman saying she no longer wanted him to DJ at her engagement party.

Another woman said: 'It's something you and your mates do when you are drunk? So this isn't the first time you've p***** on someone?

'Even in this 'apology' you are downplaying and justifying your actions by rationalising what you did.

'Literally you p***** on a man when he was telling you he has prostrate cancer. It would still be abhorrent event if he didn't have cancer.

'The fact you've done it before and your friends do it too doesn't make it alright.'

Another said: 'If this is the norm for him which appears it is as he states about him and the boys.. then he should have given up the drink along with his kiddy friends a long time ago.

Another added: 'That poor man complaining about his illness and he's happy taking a p*** on him.'

He had been due to perform on Boxing Day night at the Stamps nightclub in Llanelli but the venue said it cancelled his booking as soon as it learned of the video.

Responding to a punter on Facebook, Stamps said: 'He (Brookfield) isn’t our DJ. He was booked as part of a 5 DJ set for a one off event and we subsequently cancelled him due to the video.'
