North Devon is delighted to announce the signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder, Roshan Lakmal, for their 2024 Devon League campaign.

Lakmal is an accomplished all-rounder who returned to Sri Lankan domestic cricket last summer (2022), following a decade’s hiatus, much of which was spent plying his trade in Australia.

He returned with a bang for Panadura, racking up 442 runs at 44.20 in his 10 Major League Tournament (first-class) fixtures, before a further 241 at 40.16 including a century (101*) last summer from Panadura’s number 3 slot.

Due to the strength and depth of spin within the Panadura ranks, bowling opportunities have been limited, but Lakmal is a quality left-arm spinner evidenced by his prior success in both domestic and Australian club cricket. In 34 first-class matches (at the point of writing), Lakmal has bagged 3 five-wicket bags, a 10 wicket match haul, and 49 poles at 27.81, alongside 949 runs at 29.65 in his 40 first-class innings.

Following his first-class debut (2009), and three initial seasons in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, Lakmal headed for the first of his 6 seasons in Australia. He became a legend in the South East Cricket Association (Longmuir Shield) courtesy of his exploits for Mackie Cricket Club.

Having joined the club as predominantly a left-arm spinner in 2013/14, he would go on to excel in both facets scoring 2,178 runs at 32.51, alongside 145 wickets at 20.37. He enjoyed arguably his most prolific season (particularly with the bat) during what proved to be his final season in 2019/20 before COVID struck.

He has now resumed domestic cricket in Sri Lanka and is now eager to embark on his next challenge – a season’s club cricket in England. Lakmal will wing his way to Northern shores in 2024 having recently signed with North Devon for their Devon League campaign.
