MANY members of Crediton Bowling Club have made progress in the major competitions so far this season:

Ladies

Liz Smerdon qualified out of section for the last 16 in the four-wood singles, to be played on July 15 at Madeira.

Helen Ellis and Jackie Hemmings-Anthony have qualified for the last 16 of the two-wood singles, to be played on July 9 at Paignton.

Helen Ellis and Nikki Payne have qualified for the last 16 of the pairs.

Mary Abbott, Sue Grigg and Maggie Chaplin have reached the last 16 of the triples.

Helen Ellis, Amy Bond, Nikki Payne and Liz Smerdon have reached the last 16 of the ladies fours.

Men

The Top Club team have made the area quarter finals and will play either Sidmouth or Exonia.

Two fours, A and B teams play each other tomorrow (Friday, June 9) for a place in the quarter finals to meet Topsham.

The club is well represented in the early rounds of the pairs with Gary Ayley and Rob Paxton defeating Hampton and Southgate.

Mike Tapp and Lloyd Reynolds, Rich Ellis and Gary Morphet, Steve Geatches and Trevor Newbery, Neil Thomas and Chris Bond all remain in the competition second round, which was due to be played on June 5 at Crediton and Exonia.

Edd Tucker and Pete Sheppard play in the semi-final on June 12 at Crediton. Allan Gibb, Richard Gunn, Richard Ellis and Mark Theedom are through to the last 16 of the fours.

In the Over 60’s League there was a surprise 6-2 defeat for the A team at the hands of Marina.

No such problems for the B team who overcame Exonia 8-0 or the C team who got back to winning ways by defeating Belmont 6-2.

In the friendlies there was a decisive victory over Chagford but although the result in rinks against Marldon was 3-3 it was the visitors who claimed victory on shots scored.

Another busy week is guaranteed at Newcombes due to the fact that so many competitions are now up and running.
