Sisters of Hope hold bowls fun day at Florida North Bowling Club

NPC assists families struggling with addiction and other socio-economic ills

Skill and purpose help keep the charity momentum rolling on.

Focusing on areas between and around Newclare and Riverlea, Maraisburg-based Sisters of Hope non-profit company (NPC) has been supporting their community for roughly eight years. Founded by Shenaaz Farred, the humanitarian turned her experience as a pro-Palestinian activist in the Gaza Strip into a book and with the proceeds began her mission to uplift her community.

As a fundraising activity for their food-parcel project, Sisters of Hope’s enlisted the skills of the Florida North Bowling Club for a fun day on the greens on September 24. Roughly 100 supporters of Sisters of Hope tried their hand at lawn bowls while the host members guided novices and naturals alike around the intricacies of the deceivingly difficult sport. “Everyone is enjoying it so much. We didn’t realise how much fun it is,” laughed Shenaaz.

Sisters of Hope’s primary project is their food-parcel distributions where they regularly provide over 250 families with relief every month. Among a host of other areas, the small number of volunteers assist with school shoes, school fees, female sanitary products and most recently provided 1 000 people with pyjamas this past winter. Abroad, Shenaaz has helped install a borehole in Gaza as part of her efforts in the Middle Eastern territory.

Florida North Bowling Club welcomed the faces and encouraged any first-timers to make their way back to the club. Shenaaz praised the club’s hospitality and their readiness to provide additional woods and coaching. Some pastimes require extended practice but charity is a natural pursuit.
