Tenacious breed of karatekas head to world championships

Tebbutt’s best six head to the 2019 World Martial Arts Organisation (WMO) World Championships in England.

Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy continues to produce the calibre of karatekas who are fit to represent not only the dojo, but the country well, in all fighting styles and tournaments.

Kanchu Alex Tebbutt recently attended the Galaxy Challenge, hosted by shihan Danie du Plessis, with 13 of his spectacular students who returned home with a collection of 67 medals.

The challenge was held at the Barnard Stadium Indoor Centre in Kempton Park.

“The tournament featured all fighting styles, including kick-boxing, kata, traditional and musical weapons,” said Tebbutt.

“I took great pleasure in seeing my students display zeal in the ring and continue to dominate their opponents.”

Thrilled with the announcement that six students from Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy will be heading to the 2019 World Martial Arts Organisation (WMO) World Championships later this year, are Daniello Di Bartolomeo, kanchu Alex Tebbutt , LK van Coller and Clayton Tregear (co-owner of Spur Copper Canyon).

On the back of the tournament in which the dojo bagged three bronze medals, five silver and 59 gold medals, Tebbutt relished in announcing that six members from his dojo have been selected to represent South Africa in the 2019 World Martial Arts Organisation (WMO) World Championships in Blackpool, England.

The six were chosen based on their individual performances at the full contact martial arts (FCMA) tournament held in Kempton Park, earlier this year.

Cole Pretorius, Landie van Niekerk, LK van Coller, Daniello Di Bartolomeo, Teaghen-Lee Joubert and Jesse-James Joubert, will leave for England on November 1 for the championships, which run from November 3 to 6.

“All blue, green, orange and purple belts will receive provincial colours in FCMA ahead of their trip to England and all brown and black belts will sport full South African colours,” Tebbutt said proudly.

Van Coller’s trip will be sponsored by Spur Copper Canyon, in Lambton.

“We want to help make van Coller’s dreams come true.

“He is a talented karateka, which is why we have planned a dinner fund-raiser in his name” said Clayton Tregear, co-owner of Spur Copper Canyon.

“I believe by giving him this financial support he will go on to perform to the best of his ability.”

The fund-raiser is set to take place on August 30 in Lambton, and 15 per cent of all proceeds generated on the evening will be donated to van Coller.

“Every one of my students have upheld the standards of this dojo at every local tournament, which is why we are positive that we are sending the best fighters who will achieve the highest merits on the international platform at the world championships,” said Tebbutt.
