THE Cornwall County League bowls season got underway with the first matches in Group Two which is the North Cornwall area.

In Division One, Dunheved A welcomed their Wadebridge A counterparts, but despite one rink being close which the visitors won 20-17, the other two were hefty defeats as the visitors ran out 68-30 winners for a full five points.

The rink scores for Dunheved were: B Medland, J Bond-Webber, K Sargent & C Down lost 8-26; C Pett, J Creber, T Shopland C Fishleigh lost 5-22; B Easton, P Jones, N Goodchild & C Squire lost 17-20.

In the same division, Stratton A men’s team travelled to Launceston where they faced their Kensey Vale counterparts.

A good start by the hosts enabled them to take a slender lead in the first couple of ends.

However, as the game went on Stratton soon found themselves in front on all three rinks and had a 24 total shot advantage.

Although Kensey started to fight back and close the gap on two of the three rinks, the third rink started to fall further and further behind as the game went on.

In the end Stratton managed to claim all five points available, despite Kensey almost clawing a share of the points on one of the rinks.

The final scores were as follows: I Curtis, J Goodall, S Gambriel & S Jones beat A Crichton, A Blackie, R Worth & N Trewin 19-16; S Ford, V Mancuso, R Nash and G Maynard beat A Jiggens, P Musson, B Dyer & P Gilbert 21-15; A O’Callaghan, K Nash, A Braund & A Seth beat J Mills-Ramage, J Fetner, S Bratley & P Prynne 34-5.

In Division Two, the match between Kensey Vale B and Stratton B was postponed due to the weather, while the Stratton ladies start their season this week.
