Brentford's run in the Capital One Cup came to an end on Sunday. The were beaten 3-1 away to Colne Valley Ladies to exit the competition and were made to rue a number of missed chances. The Bees started slowly and came under early pressure from the home side, who sit bottom of the Greater London Women’s Premier League, and found themselves trailing when Debbie Watson intercepted Sophie Troth’s pass and drilled the ball past Emily Boycott in the Brentford goal.

Dana Johnson came close to levelling the scoreline soon after but saw her low driven shot well saved. Valley doubled the lead soon after when Boycott was beaten to the ball by the Valley striker who tapped into the empty net. Brentford responded well and pulled a goal back as Jodie Reid reacted quickest to Johnson’s saved effort and neatly knocked the ball into the net and Rhia Benjamin came close to levelling the scoreline but saw her attempt roll past the post.

Craig Brown’s side were building momentum heading into the second half but found themselves trailing further when Sophie Modak's cross was met by Nicola Saunders who was able to guide the ball past Boycott. The increase in deficit spurred Brentford into attack as they created a number of excellent chances to reduce the lead but Johnson was unable to turn the intricate build up play into goals whilst Serena Guardino failed to convert her chance and Reid also had an effort to double her tally for the day.

Focus now turns to next Sunday’s league game as the Bees face an away trip to Luton Town Development who sit bottom of the Greater London Women’s Football League Division 1.
