A BOWLS supremo from Ringwood is set to represent England at an international competition.

Following recent Bowls England trials, Ringwood Bowling Club member Daniel Cookman, 24, has been selected to represent his nation in the British Isles Under 25 International Series.

Held on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday 17, the matches will be held at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club in Powys, Wales.

The former Ringwood School pupil is part of a squad of 26 players from around the country. The team was selected following the Junior Squad Day held at Victoria Park in Royal Leamington Spa on July 9, which was attended by 100 young players.

Bowls England says it is committed to ensuring young players fulfil their potential in the sport, and describe the Under 25 Internationals as “a key building block” towards this goal.

Performance director Mo Monkton said: “We were delighted to win both the women’s and overall title at the Under 25 Internationals in 2022. The selectors have gone with a blend of youth and experience in their respective teams this year, and we are confident that they will do us proud in Wales.”

Established in 1933, Ringwood Bowling Club is based at Mount Pleasant Lane.
