Over 350 athletes compete on a sweltering Sports Day

One of the highlights of the academic year is the Bourne Academy Sports Day and on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 we were treated to a glorious day of sunshine and calm conditions as the weather reached 28 degrees.

This sporting spectacular took place at the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Boston, which is a purpose-built athletics stadium with a large spectator grandstand so everyone could watch and support their House when not competing themselves.

It was also great to see families of students who were participating in the sports day come along and enjoy the lovely weather and offer their support.

Over 350 students competed in a range of events such as the 100m, 200m, 3/400m, 800m, 1500m, Javelin, Shot Put, High Jump and Long Jump. The finale of the day was the 4 x 100m relay with boys and girls teams for Years 7 to 10. The Discus, 2/3,000m and Cross Country took place on other days during the week.

Thank you to everyone in the PE department, the Heads of House and all of the staff volunteers who made this such a fantastic event.

Miss Ged Coles, Director of Sport & PE said “Congratulations to the all of the students who took part and represented their Houses by putting in their best performances. All the competitors competed in great spirit with tremendous enthusiasm. The day ran extremely smoothly with some excellent individual performances.”

A special mention goes to Celine Acheampong in Year 7 (pictured above) who stormed her way to win the 200 metres and broke the school record that has been held since 1992. Celine also won the Year 7 Girls 100m and Year 7 Girls Long Jump plus picked up awards for Best Sports Day Performance and Best Record Broken.

All of the winners were announced in a special Sports Day assembly and trophy presentations for the whole school on Monday 4th July 2022.
