It’s been a spectacular season for girls sport at Longsands Community Primary School.

In football, the girls won the Preston Primary Schools Championship League with 44 goals scored and none conceded. They were also champions at the UCLan Sports Festival with 15 goals scored and none conceded.

Four girls were chosen to represent Preston, while two of the four have secured a place at the Preston North End Academy.

In addition to being crowned netball champions of the Preston Primary Schools Championship League, the team were High 5 winners and went on to represent Preston at the Lancashire Spar Games in Blackpool.

The girls also dominated in cricket, winning the Cricket Dynamos competitions and taking the trophy at the County Finals.

Parent Linda Douglas said: “The Longsands mantra is Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM). This is what the girls believe. They support each other, win together and lose together.

“Unfortunately a lot of girls drop out of sport after primary school, but we’re hoping their success inspires them to move forward and keep going – maybe even become future Lionesses!”

Headteacher at Longsands CP, Mrs Mckeown, said: “The children have been inspired to try many different sports thanks to the increase in the recognition of women’s sport.

“There are now many more clubs in Preston and the surrounding area available for girls to participate in out of school. School staff have always encouraged and directed children to out of school organisations to further their interest in sport.

“This year has been phenomenal with our team’s achievements and we are extremely proud of them being part of the Longsands family.”
