The sport is so precise that it leaves very little margin for error

The gravity-defying discipline

In short, trampoline gymnastics is one of the most thrilling, exhilarating and breathtaking sports around.

Elite trampoline gymnasts are quite literally flying solo for the seconds they are in the air. With very little margin for error, this sport requires precise technique and perfect body control, as well as courage and elegance.

At the FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships, athletes will compete in Individual and Synchronised Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline (DMT) and Tumbling.

Here's the world-class agility you can experience...

Individual Trampoline

Athletes perform 10 acrobatic skills in sequence and without stops while jumping on a trampoline. Skills range from simple jumps and somersaults in the straight, pike, or tuck position to more complex combinations of forward and backwards somersaults, with or without twists.

Gymnasts need to hit the centre of the trampoline bed each time and are judged on four specific areas: execution, difficulty, time of flight and horizontal displacement.

Synchronised Trampoline

Athletes perform the same skills displayed in Individual Trampoline but must perform these in perfect synchronisation with their partner on an adjacent trampoline. Synchronised exercises are composed of ten elements and gymnasts need to hit the centre of the trampoline each time in perfect synch with their partner, with the score judged on: execution, difficulty, synchronization and horizontal displacement.

Be wowed by our British athletes

Double Mini-Trampoline

Described as a combination of athletics, trampolining and gymnastics, athletes sprint down a carpeted run-up and hurdle onto the apparatus before performing complex somersaulting skills with the same precision required on the trampoline. Scores are based on difficulty and execution which are judged on form, height and distance.

Tumbling

The rhythm of Tumbling has been likened to that of a snare drum. It comprises a quick, crisp string of eight tumbling elements. Gymnasts sprint down a track to gather momentum before launching themselves into tumbling sequences finishing with a grand finale off the track onto the landing area, usually the most difficult and spectacular element of all.

Athletes are judged on difficulty and execution, which includes height and rhythm, and control on landing.
