A pair of local swimmers competed last weekend at the Speedo Sectional Championships in New York.

Isaac Boyd and Cole Kuster, both of Purple Valley Aquatics traveled to Ithaca College to swim against 600 other athletes in a combined 11 different events and two time trials.

Boyd, who hails from Pittsfield, swam in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM, while also competing in the 200 and 100 freestyle time trials. He knocked off significant time in both the freestyles, swimming the 200 in 1:49.78 and 50.79 in the 100, a personal best by nearly three seconds. He reached the finals in the 100 breast, while also placing in the top 31 of the 200 back.

Kuster, who hails from Williamstown, had a busy meet. He competed in the 1650, 1000, 500, 200 and 100 freestyle, 400 and 200 IM, and 200 butterfly.

He took home multiple podiums, including a first place finish in the 1000 free, finishing in 9:15.33 and receiving his medal from Boyd. He also took the 500 free title in 4:29.01, racing against 55 competitors. Kuster tacked on a No. 3 spot in the 1650 free, sixth place in the 200 free and was seventh in the 400 IM.

Berkshire rowers shine in Springfield

The Berkshire Rowing and Sculling Society (BRASS) had a small, but strong showing at the Rockrimmon Ergatta on March 24.

Williamstown's Foster Savitsky drove through the U14 boys division, winning the 2,000 meter event in 7:58.6. The 13-year-old won the race by three seconds.

In the U19 girls 2,000 meter event, Gabriela Zasada, also of Williamstown, declared herself champion. The 14-year-old repeated her Rockrimmon win by besting a large field of women with a time of 7:59.2. She dusted the competition by well over 20 seconds.

In the relay, the BRASS team made up of Savitsky, Zasada, Simon Klompus (14 of Williamstown) and Julia Ostellino-Moran (16 of Pittsfield) took second place behind a team made of all high school rowers, with a time of 7:19.6.

In the adult races, the BRASS mixed relay team of Nancy Ringer (Lenox), Julie Haagenson (Lenox), Don Roche (Pittsfield) and Randy Oberle (Pittsfield) took third with a time of 7:15.6.

Local 3-4 grade girls finish unbeaten

The third and fourth grade girls travel squad from the Boys and Girls Club of the Berkshires recently wrapped up an undefeated season. Under head coach Kristy Conyers and assistant Bryant Mauer, the local girls could not be stopped this winter.

Adams PAL champions

In the Junior Boys Division, it was Rowley Fuel and Cantarella & Sons taking home the title.

In the Senior Boys Division, Smith Bros-McAndrews Ins. and Adams Excavating was the last squad standing.

In the Senior Girls Division, Adams Lions Club proved to be too much for the local competition.

In the Junior Girls Division, the youngsters from Cheshire Auto and Cheshire Rod & Gun Club took home the trophies.

Memorial golf tournament in Lee

The Newman Catholic Center will host a golf tournament on June 8 to celebrate the memory of Louis DiGrigoli. DiGrigoli was a longtime resident and businessman in Lee who passed away in 2017. This will be the sixth Newman tournament and will be held at The Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley. DiGrigoli was a staple in the Lee business community and was a regular at the tournaments supporting the Newman Center, which is located on the campus of UMass Amherst. Dalton CRA extends registration period

The Dalton Community Recreation Association registration for Youth Baseball, Softball and Soccer at the Dalton CRA has been extended through April 4. All participants must have a current CRA/DYC Youth Membership ($40) valid through June 2018 and pay league fees. A waiting list is created after April 4 if all teams are full.

Berkshire County Lacrosse signups

The Berkshire County Lacrosse Association is still accepting registrations for its spring season. Teams will play out of Dalton, Mount Greylock, Lee, Northern Berkshire and Pittsfield. Divisions exist for those in first through eighth grade, with breakdowns for Bantams (fourth and under), Juniors (5-6) and Seniors (7-8).
