Archery: Perfect Peter wins memorial shootout

Peter Cummings (Muckamore) won the boys' recurve section with 540 and added the Phil Gordon Memorial Shield for the recurve archer with the highest score of the day at the Bangor and District hosted shoot in remembrance of their former member who died of cancer.

Cummings' clubmate Steven Horner finished second in the class (525) and Blaine McKeever of Larne (516) was third. In the boys' compound unlimited Lee Apsley (540) was the winner and two other Larne archers followed, Louis Mitchell (520) and Jordan Mitchell (513).

There was a good turnout with archers as far away as the Causeway coast and Canada competing in a Portsmouth round, archers shooting 60 arrows at a 60cm target face at 20 yards.

In the gents' recurve Chris McFadyen of Causeway Company of Archers came first (537), with Bangor duo John Bannatyne (533) and Robert Wilson (532) second and third.

In the ladies' recurve, Lesley McComb, Muckamore Company of Archers, was first (539) with Hazel Campbell - 531, 16 golds, 60 hits and a personal best, just taking second place from Lisburn City Archery Club team-mate Amanda Mayne - 531, 16 golds and 59 hits.

The gent's compound unlimited was won by Andrew Napier of Kilmore (577). Second was Rudy Jampen (573), a GNAS member from Canada and Jonathan Napier was third (560).

Ria Finch, Causeway, won the ladies' compound unlimited.

Robert Weatherup (482), Muckamore, won the gent's longbow, second was Raymond Patty (442) and Bob Inglis of Muckamore was third.

The ladies longbow went to Hilary Robinson (469) of Lough Cuan. Peter Flowers (455), Bangor, won the gent's barebow; Aud Needham (472), Lough Cuan, the ladies barebow, and Sharon Hamilton (345), Lough Cuan, the ladies' traditional.
