A unique occasion in ski-ing history is being celebrated, said Maj. Gen. R. C. de M. Leathes, chairman of the council of the National Ski Federation at the opening of Pendle Ski Club's new clubhouse. Built on to the Wellsprings Hotel, Sabden, at a cost of £5,500 to accommodate a membership that has increased six times in three years, the clubhouse will provide a much needed headquarters and a refuge from the weather. Maj. Gen. de M. Leathes singled out for special praise the club's accent on training for beginners and children.

Pendle Ski Club has nine fully qualified instructors for its 100ft. artificial ski slope. Conditions are suitable for ski-ing on Pendle for about two weeks in the season. Instruction charges are the lowest in Europe.

At the opening were the Mayor of Clitheroe, Councillor Sidney Moore and Mrs. Moore; Clitheroe's MP, Mr. David Walder and Mrs. Walder; and about 80 club members and their guests. Club chairman, Mr. John Robinson welcomed the guests and vice-president Mr. David Hamel Cooke gave a short speech.
