Years in Swimming

"I have been swimming with Bluefins since way back when it was Basingstoke Swimming Club, starting in around 2000 and making it through to Performance Squad. I stayed there for a number of years swimming in County, Regional and National competitions in Breaststroke and up to Regional in 200 IM and 1500 Freestyle"

Teaching/Coaching Background

I got interested in coaching around the age of 13 when I started volunteering with the club with a bit of coaching and learning the ropes and qualified as soon as I could. I left the club in 2009 to go travel the world! I have taken my teaching and coaching all over, teaching mainly in New Zealand for 2 years as well as coaching an amateur Masters group. I got heavily involved in Water Safety, teaching snorkelling and lifejacket safety as well as open water and pool safety to kids of all ages. I even got to work with the All Blacks for a little bit! This experience, combined with my years teaching and coaching, earned me my Austswim and my NZQA Cert III. I then moved to Australia and was a teacher over there for a Swim School for 4 years, rising to supervisory level and running training and development for teachers on a range of different teaching methods and styles that I have picked up on all my travels.

During all my travels I got to work with some of the country’s top swim clubs, learning from the biggest names in the industry, including Leigh Nugent, Head of Australian swimming up until a few years back.

Switch back to moving home to the UK in 2018 and I am now Swimming Development Manager at Basingstoke Sports Trust, training and developing teachers to be the best they can be and getting more and more involved with expanding opportunities in the world of swimming, not just lane swimming and swimming lessons. I’m loving being back at the Fins, both as a Masters swimmer and a Coach, picking up hints and tips from our awesome team of coaches!
