Bath CC 1st XI v Bedminster CC 1st XI

Bath CC 1st XI and Bedminster CC 1st XI tied on Saturday at North Parade. With dry and sunny conditions, Bedminster’s skipper won the toss and elected to bat. Despite losing opener Ollie Meadows (1) with only seven runs on the board, the Bristol side responded well and steadily rebuilt the innings before Sajan Rana (17) was out to leave Bedminster 74-2. This then brought left-hander Max Tryfonos to the crease, who batted positively with Joseph Philips (54) and then with Shay Sainsbury (42). Tryfonos was eventually out for 84 off just 74 balls, and with good contributions from the lower order, Bedminster eventually posted a very competitive 272-9 from their 50 overs. Paul Muchall picked up 3-59 and skipper, Tim Rouse 2-47.

Bath’s reply started very strongly with both openers, Jack Scrivens (55) and Bradley Porteous (59) posting half centuries in a first wicket stand of 116. But when both batters were removed, Bath struggled to convert a number of good starts into a match winning innings. As the match entered the final over, the result was on a knife edge with Bath nine wickets down still needing four runs to win. Perhaps fittingly after the two sides had fought so hard, James Arney (24) was run out with the scores tied and points were shared. Due to other results in Premier One this weekend, this tie means that Bath 1st XI go top of the table, just three points ahead of Bridgwater CC.

Bath CC 2nd XI v Winterbourne CC 1st XI

Bath CC 2nd XI recorded an excellent away win against Winterbourne CC 1st XI on Saturday. After being asked to field first, Bath’s opening attack tore through Winterbourne’s top order, as the Gloucester side slipped to 46-4 with Will Ireland picking up three wickets. Bath’s first and second change bowlers then continued the good work, and with Winterbourne 89-7, the match look set to be a low scoring encounter. But George Ford (53), Chris Shine (34) and Sheraz Raja Muhammad (40) all batted sensibly to help Winterbourne post 238-9 from their 50 overs. Once again, Amit Nathwani bowled well, picking up 3-38.

Bath’s response started well with a first wicket stand of 69, and opener Campbell McKegg then went on to post an excellent 61 before he was the second batter out with 103 on the board. Bath then steadily travelled towards their target as a number of batters passed 20 but couldn’t quite convert these good starts into a big score. In the end, Josh Norgrove hit a very positive 29 not out to take the Bath side home in the 48th over to record a seven-wicket win. As a result, Bath 2nd XI are now second to Congresbury CC 1st XI in the league

Bath CC 3rd XI v Almondsbury CC 1st XI

Bath’s 3rd XI lost away to Almondsbury CC 1st XI on Saturday. Almondsbury asked Bath to bat first, and with only seven on the board skipper, Thiann Aspeling (7) was trapped in front. Fellow opener, Bill Simmons then batted very positively with Ben De Costa (12) and then Tim Scott (16), but wickets continued to tumble regularly and when Simmons was the sixth batter out for an excellent 76, Bath were bowled out for 157 with one over still to be bowled. Craig Foreman was the pick of the Almondsbury bowlers, picking up 5-31.

Despite losing both openers to the fine bowling of Tim Scott (2-22) with only 16 on the board, an undefeated half century from number three, Sam Robertson (54*) helped steer Almondsbury to a four-wicket victory with almost ten overs still to be bowled.

Bath CC 4th XI v Abbots Leigh CC 1st XI

Bath’s 4th XI played hosts to Abbots Leigh 1st XI at the Brownsword Ground on Saturday. Abbots Leigh won the toss and elected to bat, but an excellent opening spell of 2-6 from Chloe Micklethwaite quickly put the Bristol side on the back foot, and with Bath’s other bowlers combining well to leave Abbots Leigh 91-4 the match was nicely poised. But the middle order combination of Scott Walker (66) and James Holdsworth (126) really fired, as Holdsworth in particular dominated with 16 fours and 6 sixes in his 62-ball innings. Abbots Leigh eventually posted an imposing 345-6 from their 40 overs.

Bath’s reply was built around a steady 64 from young opener Luke Stringer, but as the run rate continued to build and wickets fell, Bath slipped to a 174-run loss as they were bowled out for 171 in the 34th over.

Bath 1st XI v Chippenham 1st XI – WEPL T20 Group B

Bath 1st XI recorded a convincing win against Chippenham 1st XI in their latest WEPL T20 match on Sunday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bath got off to a fine start as openers, Jack Scrivens (36) and Bradley Porteous (42) put on 50 before Scrivens was out. Jason Marshall joined Porteous and batted throughout the rest of the innings for a fine undefeated 50, and after Porteous was out, had good partnerships with Tim Rouse (43) and Harry Ellison (24) to take Bath to 219-6.

The Chippenham reply immediately stalled as three wickets fell in quick succession to leave the home side 17-3. Unfortunately Chippenham couldn’t recover from this start and were eventually bowled out for 89 in the 16th over still 130 runs adrift. Pick of the Bath bowlers were off-spinning pair, Tim Rouse (3-19) and Louis Brown (3-11).
