BASINGSTOKE Bluefins swimmers will be hoping to a make a splash when they compete in the British ASA National Swimming Championships, Sheffield in the coming weeks.

The swimmers, all from Basingstoke's premier swimming club, swim with the Bluefins Performance squad.

They train up to18 hours a week to reach this high standard and to compete at national level is the highest achievement for any club swimmer.

Basingstoke's Mayor, Cllr Martin Biermann joined the swimmers last Tuesday to present them with Bluefins’ nationals kit which consisted of personalised polo shirts, swim hats and a beanie. He also wished them every success in the forthcoming competition.

The National Youth Championships start on Wednesday and run until Saturday and then also at Ponds Forge will be the National Age Group Championships, which finish on July 26.

John Slater, Adam Milne, and Sam Irvine have each qualified for individual events, they will be joined by other members of the squad, James Down, Jack Taylor, Sam Taylor, Bradley Sutton and Oliver Waldram who will compete in the relays.

Making up the National Youth Championships relay team are John Slater, Sam Taylor, James Down and Oliver Waldram, 4x200m freestyle.

In the Age Group Championships Adam Milne, Jack Taylor, Bradley Sutton and Sam Irvine will swim the 4x100m freestyle, 4x200m freestyle and 4x100 medley.
