Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Chris Bowmer of Greens Norton Cricket Club said, "The cricket season is nearly upon us again, given how nice the weather has been I assume we are due another bout of rain soon – otherwise we are missing some great cricket weather.

"The cricket paradise that is Greens Norton playing fields will welcome this year such diverse Northants villages as Hanslope, Evenley, Kings Sutton and Helmdon whilst we go further afield when we visit Radway in Warwickshire, MK Air in Milton Keynes and Sibford in Oxfordshire.

"We play in Division One of the South Northants Cricket League which has been about since 1925 but we have managed only rarely to be in the Premier Division, smaller villages rarely prosper for long as the ability to attract players depends on the village itself. Games are on a Saturday from 1.30, starting 4th May, we play win/lose 40 over matches which are a decent balance of not being too long but still being ‘proper cricket’ – although we do play a couple of bang wallop T20 games in the midweek cup (come and watch on the 20th June).

"We have currently a decent crop of junior players coming through and hope to see a good few years ahead of us as these mature and it would be nice to see the older generation (mainly me) fall back onto the traditional roles of Umpiring and scoring, both of which seem to be hard for us to find. Scoring though has become more sophisticated with the introduction of electronic scorebooks and much more technology available (should you choose to go that way).

"If you would like to play village cricket, or have some cricket experience and would like to Umpire – or even try your hand at scoring, we have bags of expertise to call on and we can help you through into becoming fully qualified scorer and Umpires. We would love to see cricket prosper locally as it really brings something to a village.

"If you are interested in anything we might do feel free to call me – Chris Bowmer, Club Secretary,  on 01327 359919 or e mail me cjbowmer@gmail.com
