Winsford Swimming Club

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed over 3 weekends and 12 sessions of the Cheshire County Championships 2023. It was a long 3 weekends but at the same time it seemed to fly by with so many extraordinary races and so much success to celebrate. 

We took nearly 70 swimmers to Macclesfield to race over a full program of events, plus SKINS and the ever so exciting relays, which were reintroduced this year since Covid. The results as mentioned were phenomenal with a massive 56 GOLD, 63 SILVER and 57 BRONZE medals achieved, giving us a grand total of 176 medals. This was a big improvement from last year as we achieved 145 medals in 2022. In 2022 the relays didn’t take place but still even without including the relays we gained 159 individual medals this year, an improvement of 14 medals. 

Not only did we achieve such high medal numbers but we also gained 264 finals, of which 50 swimmers achieved at least 1 top 8 placing. This again shows we have tremendous strength in depth through the club. Due to the super racing the PB rate was through the roof and a rough estimate of operating well above 80% PB rate which is a fantastic result for all our swimmers.

We also had Edward Ma, Ciaran Turner, Izzy Fletcher, Amy Kenworthy, Lewis Turner and Ethan Wright making the SKINS event, which was a great watch with the whole of Winsford Swim Team cheering on every swimmer. As always again we had the best support from both poolside and on the balcony.

The championships finished off on Sunday afternoon with the most exciting relay competition. Winsford Swim Team absolutely smashed some outstanding races out, with every single swimmer giving their absolute best. Out of the 25 relays we achieved a medal in 17 of these events. This really does show we can put together a great team in age groups across the board as the relay medal table shows below. 6 GOLD, 7 SILVER & 4 BRONZE, total of 17 relay medals. It was just a shame that the rules did not allow B Teams as I know we could have added to this medal count.

The club points are yet to be confirmed for the Age and Senior/Junior categories however it is clear going off the points distributed after the second weekend we were 100% on course to achieve TOP 3 CLUB in CHESHIRE. Also cementing our place as TOP CLUB in Cheshire East and Cheshire West, and by a considerable margin. As soon as the club points are distributed we will be sure to let you know.

All of the fantastic results we achieved at the Cheshire County Championships are down to the sheer hard work and commitment shown by all swimmers, parents, committee and teachers/coaches. It is as always a massive team effort. The support right the way through the meet was first class, and I would like to say a special thank you to our captain's team and all the senior swimmers who led by example and helped our youngsters so they could perform and feel part of our team. The team spirit was second to none, with all members supporting each other, cheering for one another and having such a blooming good time. Championship racing is such a laugh because we are together racing as a team.
