France holds Paris 2024 Olympic relay trial run

The Torch Relay for the Paris 2024 Olympics had a significant trial run on Friday, 22 March 2024.

The first full-scale, one-day test occurred in the picturesque Aube department, located on the outskirts of Paris, where the final Torchbearer will conclude the relay in Troyes.

The successful trial involved approximately 400 participants, including teams from Paris 2024, local communities, presenting partners Coca-Cola and Banque Populaire & Caisse d'Epargne, representatives from the sports movement, and government departments.

The objective was to ensure readiness for the event scheduled for spring 2024. To preserve the ceremonial significance of the Relay, the test was conducted without lighting the Torch, which will only occur publicly after its ceremonial lighting in Olympia on April 16.

Although not an exact replica of the Relay, the test served as an operational and technical check to facilitate any necessary adjustments before the official event.

Residents along the route in Aube were given a glimpse of the festivities anticipated during the actual Relay.

The test followed a route similar to the planned one for the official Relay Day on 13 July, traversing notable landmarks and venues across the Aube department.

From Clairvaux Abbey in Ville-sous-la-Ferté to the Roger Couderc Stadium in Nogent-sur-Seine, passing through locations like the Nigloland theme park in Dolancourt and the shores of Lac d'Orient in Mesnil-Saint-Père, the route showcased the architectural, natural, and sporting treasures of the region.
