Summer school students get into aviation engineering. Over the summer period more than 500 students attending the TurnPoint Ltd Summer Work Experience programme had a chance for hands on activities with 2Excel Engineering and the Lasham Gliding Society and Gliding Heritage Centre, at Lasham Airfield in Hampshire. The “engineering away days” included classroom and practical sessions where students learned about the principles of flight and aviation engineering. With 2Excel, this gave students an insight into the practical elements of working in an aviation setting at an MRO (Maintenance and Repair Organisation) and a taste of both the theory and the practical side of a career in this sector of the industry, complete with a tour of the facility. Lasham Gliding Society and Gliding Heritage Centre showed the students how gliders are maintained and they were also able to take part in an exercise to rig a glider and see up close what types of materials are used. Andy Perkins, CEO of Turnpoint, said: “We have been running these summer programmes for 10 years now and once again we were we made incredibly welcome. All the students gained valuable insight into this industry as a career choice. “The enthusiasm on display during the programme was boundless and it was great to see how the students tackled the tasks and demonstrated teamwork, collaboration and leadership skills that can be developed for the next generation of aviation engineers. “To see the human side of aviation was also inspiring and you could quickly see how a career in aviation appeals to a broad range of young people from all backgrounds. This time around 30 percent of the group was female which is inspiring to other young women who may have thought this wasn’t the place for them. “I would like to say a huge thank you to 2Excel Engineering, and to the Lasham Gliding Society and Gliding Heritage Centre for making this possible.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eJyi2fM4

We have helped young aviators to get one step closer to realising their aviation dreams delivering an intensive gliding course last week at Lasham for The Honourable Company of Air Pilots’ gliding scholarship sponsored by 2Excel Aviation. All 3 of the participants made huge progress towards a BGA Solo Endorsement and we're excited to see them progress further in the months ahead!

We have helped young aviators to get one step closer to realising their dreams with sponsorship of places on The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots’ gliding scholarship. The course, aimed to provide an opportunity for those who would like to become pilots or to further their qualifications as pilots, took place at Lasham Airfield, Hampshire, home of the Lasham Gliding Society, and where 2Excel Engineering has its maintenance and repair organisation (MRO). Ruth Brigg-Waites, Cameron Brown and Mohammed Shaik took the intensive training course, which included classroom learning as well as flight time, towards a solo qualification, also enjoyed a tour of the 2Excel Engineering facility. Ben Griffiths, our Group Communications Director, and a Liveryman of The Honourable Company of Air Pilots, said: “A gliding scholarship is a wonderful introduction to the world of flight for many, some of whom will go on to discover powered flight. “Encouraging the next generation of aviators not only inspires personal achievement and the realisation of long held dreams but can be a springboard into a choice of career and ultimately brings new life into the industry. “Enabling the places also fits well with 2Excel’s social value commitments and we were more than happy to collaborate on this scholarship.” Jordan Bridge, Deputy Chief Flying Instructor at Lasham Gliding Society, and an Upper Freeman of The Honourable Company, said: “We were delighted to work with 2Excel and The Honourable Company of Air Pilots to deliver this Gliding Scholarship at Lasham. “The candidates all made fantastic progress towards a gliding solo endorsement over the week, providing a solid foundation of training for their flying career in the years to come.”

Thanks to Lasham Gliding Society for hosting the Strutt & Parker South East Development Consultancy client event last night. Our New Homes, Development, Planning, Valuation and Viability teams each invited a few clients along to provide a very different networking opportunity for those that attended. We flew 15 clients in beautiful conditions over the Hampshire countryside with views from Spinnaker tower round to the Shard! Following the flying, we were treated to a BBQ / drinks in the clubhouse.
