The first game of the season for Esher FC Blues U8 team was away at Carshalton Athletic FC.

And what a game !  The team started the new season just like they and the other U7 teams finished last season.  That means lots of passing, fast counter attacks and clinical finishing.  The game spread over two 20 minute halves was a real joy to watch.

Thierry started the game in goal and made a number of decent saves !  In the second half he spent time on the wing and as a striker.  He scored twice which included a simple tap in ‘fox in the box’ type of goal and the second which he picked up at half way, controlled shot at range into the bottom right hand side of goal.

A great game to watch and congrats to Thierry’s team mates Jacob, Joaquim, Tom, Myles and Ted for their 8-2 victory and giving their parents so much to smile about.

8am on the road for a 102 team football tournament today at Brockham 2013 Tournament.   What an amazingly well run event and many thanks to the organisers.

Both Esher U7 teams won all their respective 5 matches each with Thierry’s team, playing as France, scoring 15 goals and letling in just two. He scored a goal for dad on Father’s day and kept a clean sheet in goal.

The teams played were;

  • Ockley Acorns
  • Oakwood Youth
  • Ashtead Colts Wanderers
  • Shelton Athletic Sharks
  • Brockham Badgers A

Thierry had time to enter a competition and had his shot measured at 56 kph ! Nice one son.

Thierry played in his first tournament of 2013 in the Esher FC 2 team yesterday at Staines & Laleham Sports & Leisure.  He was predominantly on the left side for the five ten minute games.   The team fared really well winning three games, drawing one and narrowly losing one.  Five goals were scored with only 2 conceded.

A first and last of the season

Esher Wizards Whites played their last scheduled game of the season on Sunday.   This was a real humdinger of a game, played away from home, against a strong spirited Staines side.  Esher went 2-0 up in the game but Staines mounted a comeback in the 3rd period of 15 minutes with the game ending 3-3.   The Wizards did exceedingly well given they had no subs to rely on in what was a six a side game.    Thierry played his part working the left wing and got a pin point cross in to create an assist for Luke to score the first goal.   All in all this was a good old fashioned cup tie type of game.    It was our team’s first draw of the season.

And what a great season too.  One draw and only one loss in a total of 20 or so games.   What a team !!   Now we’re looking forward to a few tournaments over the next few months.

Two goals with the temperature at minus one

Thierry scored a couple of goals in today’s 8-6 win against Old Isleworthians.  Esher played a team that continually pressured and had really great individual skills.  This was a result that was hard fought featuring another Esher 3rd period comeback.

The game was played on Astroturf in a six a side format over 45 minutes.  There was snow in the air and the temperature was below zero.  Thierry played on the left for most of the time he was on the pitch with a spell at the back.

Thierry’s first goal came from a cross from the right which he half volleyed into the top of the goal.

In the second period Thierry was on the left again.  He was passed the ball from just inside his half, moved forward and looped a ball up and over high into the left hand corner of the goal.  His personal goal of the season and one that we talked about all the way home !

Esher FC U7 Whites were in their new kit today.

What a game !  The U7’s played Rocks Lane in Barnes today.   Wearing their brand new kit the Whites got off to a slow start and were 2-0 down at half time.   But after a spirited comeback the game finished 4-3 to Esher.   Thierry had half an hour on the left and completed the game in goal.

After Thierry’s game against Esher Wizards U8’s he helped out his buddies in Esher Colts U7’s.   The game was against Twickenham Tigers played on a pitch just across from Twickenham Stadium.

The team won a well contested match 4-2 with Thierry having a couple of sessions on the left wing and a stint in goal.

Nothing but pride

Esher Whites U7’s had a team cancel on them today so ended up playing their older cousins, Esher Wizards U8’s.   The Wizards have had an amazing season so far, so for the Whites this was going to be a potentially daunting challenge.   However, the Whites more than held their own playing fantastic, expansive football with great passing, stoic defending and a decent set of chances on goal.

Thierry played his part and his throw-ins were particularly menacing with long, direct pin point accuracy causing the opposition more than a few problems.   Today the team really gelled and everyone had a great game.  A final score of 5-2 flattered the opposition.  This was one of the Whites best games of the season and despite their loss they can have a lot to be proud of.

On a blustery yet sunny Sunday morning Thierry joined up with the Esher Yellows to help make up the  team numbers in a game against Kew Park Rangers.  His game at Carshalton with the Whites was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

This was a classic game of two halves.   After 10 minutes the Yellows were 3-0 down but slowly they edged back into the game, winning it 8-6.   Thierry played the full 40 minutes out on the left wing.  He scored with a fine Olivier Giroud-esque shot across goal into the top right of the net and on a small pitch his long throw ins were always a menace.

Here’s Thierry having his pre match banana !

The football season continued today with a hard fought 4-0 against a committed Staines Albion FC side.  Thierry squeezed a goal in from a Amaran cross but the big news of the day is that sometime soon we may get some official kit for the lads !   So far the boys have played 12 games and won eleven all in a combination of different coloured socks and shorts to augment their yellow jerseys.
