Men's Diving collects five NCAA Championship qualifiers on 3m at Zone D Diving Championships

Texas took the top-two spots on Women’s 1-meter; five men qualify on 3-meter.

HOUSTON – Texas Diving had five men qualify for NCAA Championships on 3-meter on day one of competition for Texas at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on Monday at the CRCW Natatorium. All told, the Longhorns qualified seven divers for the NCAA Championships with two women also earning spots on 1-meter.

Freshman Tanner Braunton paced the Longhorn effort with a third-place performance on 3-meter, scoring 806.00 to clinch his spot in the NCAA Championships. All told, Texas had five divers place among the top nine, the benchmark for qualification. Noah Duperre placed fourth (802.35), Nick Harris took fifth (791.35) and Manuel Borowski finished sixth (780.50), while Brendan McCourt scored 741.90 points to clinch the ninth and final spot. Pierce Brooke scored 300.85 points during the prelims, falling short of the finals cutoff by just eight points.

On the women's side, Hailey Hernandez led a one-two finish for Texas on 1-meter, capturing the top spot with 666.80 points, almost forty points ahead of teammate and runner-up Bridget O'Neil, who scored 628.35 points for the second-place finish. Sarah Carruthers (251.60), Caroline Kupka (251.50) and Amanda Stalfort (242.85) each competed in the semifinals of the event.

The NCAA Zone D Diving Championships continue Tuesday, March 12 with the women competing on the 3-meter springboard and the men on the 1-meter. Preliminary rounds for both the women and men start at 11:45 a.m. CT.
