Isotta Fraschini has presented the Tipo 6 LMH Competizione, which is poised to make its FIA World Endurance Championship debut later this year on a “race by race” basis.

Unveiled Tuesday at the Automobile Club Milano, the four-wheel drive Italian LMH car will be run by Vector Sport, with the possibility of customer cars in the future.

While Vector Sport’s full season entry Hypercar class request was denied by the WEC, it’s believed the car could make its debut as early as the 6 Hours of Monza in July, although it remains unconfirmed.

Powered by a HWA-tuned 3.0-liter, 90-degree V6 twin-turbo engine, which pairs with a 270-horsepower front axle-mounted electric motor, the powertrain produces a maximum of 700 combined horsepower.

It is coupled with a bespoke chassis developed by longtime Ferrari partner Michelotto, with the car weighing at 1000 km, below the minimum in LMH.

Aerodynamic work has been undertaken in Williams’ wind tunnel, with other key partners in the project include Brembo (brakes), PWR (cooling system), Multimatic (suspension), Xtrac (gearbox), Williams (battery system), Pankl (transmission) and Bosch (electronics).

“Today, we are exactly where we predicted four months ago, when we announced that Isotta Fraschini would be back and that it would do so, according to tradition, with a racing car,” said director of motorsport Claudio Berro.

“The Tipo 6 LMH Competizione is now in its complete and real configuration and the intentions for the 2023 season remain those of competing in the 2023 WEC championship with the ‘race by race’ formula, as soon as the car is homologated by the FIA.

“In the meantime, we will be grinding kilometers together with the team Vector Sport to be ready as soon as possible.”

The first LMH car has completed build at Vector Sport’s UK headquarters and will begin dyno testing shortly, followed by on-track testing.

It has been revealed that two LMH variants will also be produced, with the ‘Pista’ set to be a track day-only car and the ‘Strada’ will be registered as a “one of a kind copy that can be repeated” in countries that allow for such homologations.

The track day cars are part of a €100 million ($106 million) investment plan that will see the annual production of Type 6 cars reach 50 units in five years’ time, with a two-seater hypercar set to arrive in 2026.
