The James "Doc" Corrigan Recovery Room

St. Francis College Department of Sports Medicine offers a wide range of prevention, rehabilitation and recovery options to their 200+ student-athletes. Also, the department offers referrals in dentistry, optomology, and physiological counseling. The Athletic Training Staff consists of four full-time athletic trainers all of whom are NATA certified and licensed in the state of New York. St. Francis College's Department of Sports Medicine is also Clinical Preceptors for fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member LIU Brooklyn's Athletic Training Education Program.

The Department of Sports Medicine works closely with Maimonides Bone and Joint as our Orthopedic Doctors.  "Their doctors have many years of experience working with athletes, and their new location has everything that we need in our team doctors," commented head athletic trainer Andrew Cornicello.

"We are extremely excited about being part of the St. Francis family," commented Dr. Jack Choueka.  "We look forward to providing expert compassionate Orthopedic and Sports Medicine care for all of the student-athletes and keeping them in top competitive shape."

SPORTS MEDICINE POLICIES, EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROCEDURES AND GENERAL INFORMATION

- All Student Athletes must complete a physical examination prior to participation in intercollegiate athletics. A copy of the physical form, HIPPA form, physical exam form, insurance form must be on file in the sports medicine office.

-St. Francis College Athletics Requires ALL student-athletes to have Primary Medical Insurance in order to participate in St. Francis College Athletics. 

-All injuries/illnesses must be reported to a member of the medical staff immediately. The determination of whether an athlete is capable of practice or game participation is the sole responsibility of the Sports Medicine Staff.

-A member of the St. Francis College Sports Medicine Staff will only make medical referrals. In order for any referral appointment to be covered under the athletic insurance policy, prior approval must be given by a Sports Medicine Staff member.

-The Athletic Department has an excess insurance policy for athletic injury only. All bills must first be filed with the students/parent's primary insurance company. The student-athlete or parents forward the bill and the explanation of benefits form from their insurance company to St. Francis College Sports Medicine Office. This will then be filed with the department's insurance carrier.

-All Sports Medicine Department rules must be followed. These rules are posted in the Sports Medicine Clinic. If you require further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the Sport Medicine Department at 718-489-5216. They will assist you with any questions you may have.
